Chevalier FBL Series Heavy-Duty Slant Bed Horizontal Turning Centers

Chevalier FBL-230 / 300 Series Turning Centers

Heavy-Duty Horizontal Turning Lathes including C-axis Milling Options

The Series is designed with its 45-degree slant bed, rigid box ways structure, programmable tailstock and Fanuc control. The machine design is engineered with ease of access and trouble-free maintenance in mind.

The structure of the FBL Series is ribbed Meehanite cast iron mono-block casting––with hardened and ground hand-scraped slideways––helps resist deflection and vibration during heavy machining and ensures stable end-to-end cutting of long shafts.

The FBL-230 series offers a flexible, accurate and efficient solution for mixed-volume, short run or dedicated high-volume applications, delivering fast parts machining of bars up to 2.02″ in diameter at speeds up to 4,000 rpm. The maximum swing is up to 21.6″ and the turning diameter is 11.8″. The center distance is 20″. The X- and Z-axes positioning accuracy is ±0.0002″ while repeatability is ±0.0001″.

The lathe features up to 20 HP and up to 8″ hydraulic chuck. It produces 177 ft-lb torque at a lower rpm. The fast 10-position servo turret offers 0.23 second tool indexing time and the O.D. shank is 1″. The carousel is held by a large curved coupling and clamped by hydraulic pressure.

Chevalier FBL-360 / 460 Series Turning Centers

Heavy-Duty Horizontal Turning Lathes including C-axis Milling Options

The FBL-360 and 460 offer rigidity and accuracy for heavy-duty tough machining on mixed-volume, short-run, or dedicated high-volume applications. Operators can depend on the delivery of fast parts machining of bars up to 4.5″ in diameter at speeds up to 2,500rpm (FBL-360) and up to 5.5″ in diameter at speeds up to 1,400rpm (FBL-460). The X- and Z-axes positioning accuracy is ±0.0002″; repeatability is ±0.0001″.

The lathe features up to a 50HP, AC digital spindle motor with a two-speed gearbox and 15″ hydraulic chuck, producing up to 1,901 ft.-lbs. torque at lower rpm. The fast, 10- or 12-position servo-indexing turret offers 0.5-secs. tool indexing time. The OD shank is 1.25” and the boring bar holds up to 2.5″. The carousel is held by a large curved coupling and clamped by hydraulic pressure. Tool setters that help reduce set-up times and keep non-machining times to a minimum are additional assets.

Chevalier FBL-500 Series Turning Centers

Heavy-Duty Horizontal Turning Lathes including C-axis Milling Options

The 500 Series is designed with a 45-degree slant bed machine body structure with a low center of gravity for enhanced machining accuracy. The user-friendly design of the slant bed shortens the distance between the operator and the workpiece. The proximity of the chuck, turret, and tailstock to the front of the machine enables the operator to load and unload workpieces with ease. The slant angle also ensures a swift flow of chips and coolant into the chip pan when the machine is in operation. Furthermore, the slant-bed lathes take up less floor area than horizontal-bed lathes.

Spindle bore diameter ranges in size up to 12.5″. Maximum swing diameter is 40.5″; cutting diameter is 37″. Three sizes are offered: 80″, 120″ and 160″ and a special Z-axis, ball screw support maintains high precision and stability. Dual-chuck and easy access design provides the convenience of loading and unloading longer parts.

A powerful 60HP spindle motor that features a four-stage gearbox and generates 7,118 NM torque would satisfy most cutting conditions of large-diameter workpieces or tough material applications. Massive, 200-mm-thick disk and hydraulic clamping of its curvic-coupling design ensure cutting stability during rough turning environments.
